Literations Celebrates Presidential Volunteer Service Awardees with Lifetime Achievement Honors

June 25, 2024 – Boston, MA – Literations is thrilled to announce that six of our outstanding volunteers have been honored with the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) with Lifetime Achievement. This award recognizes volunteers who have dedicated at least 4,000 hours of service over their lifetime. We are proud to be the only organization within the AARP Foundation Experience Corps network to have Lifetime Achievement award recipients this year, making this accomplishment truly exceptional.

Our six dedicated volunteers, alongside a group of Literations staff, spent a memorable week in Washington, D.C., where they were celebrated for their remarkable commitment and outstanding service. These volunteers have spent countless hours coaching students to improve their reading and literacy skills, providing mentorship, and fostering social-emotional learning.

"Our volunteers are the core of our organization," said Wes Enicks, Executive Director of Literations. "Their selfless service and relentless passion for helping students succeed are what make Literations a beacon of hope and learning. We are incredibly proud of our Lifetime Achievement Award recipients and all they have accomplished."

The President's Volunteer Service Award is a testament to the incredible impact volunteers can have on their communities. Literations' six Lifetime Achievement Award recipients have set an inspiring example, demonstrating that dedicated volunteerism can create lasting, positive change.

Bill Wolff, one of the Lifetime Achievement recipients, shares his thoughts on this transformative work, “Volunteers and mentors at Literations provide trusted support, helping to change mindsets and build confidence in these children. The more supportive relationships a child has, the more likely they are to believe in their ability to learn and succeed.”

We envision a day when all children are proficient readers when they enter 4th Grade. Literacy is the key to academic success and can be a path out of poverty.

Generations Incorporated strives to improve the literacy skills of young children through Grade 3. We also provide meaningful opportunities to older adults who serve as literacy volunteers in our partner schools and after school programs in low-income communities.
