Literations Announces Expansion to Chelsea Public Schools, Bringing Proven Literacy Program to the District in 2025
BOSTON, MA — Literations, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving childhood literacy, announced today its expansion to Chelsea Public Schools. This strategic partnership marks a significant step in addressing critical literacy needs in one of Greater Boston's most diverse communities, where more than 80% of third and fourth graders currently read below grade level.
The expansion will bring Literations' successful one-on-one literacy coaching program to Chelsea's elementary schools, housed within the Mary C. Burke Elementary School Complex. Starting with 20-25 students at the Kelly School in the coming weeks, the program aims to eventually serve 350-400 students annually, representing a transformative investment in Chelsea's educational future.
"This expansion into Chelsea represents a pivotal moment in our organization's growth and impact," said Wes Enicks, Executive Director of Literations. "Chelsea's vibrant, diverse community and concentrated need for literacy support make it an ideal partner for our program. By connecting students with dedicated literacy coaches, we're not just teaching reading—we're opening doors to lifelong learning and success for hundreds of young minds in Chelsea."
The expansion aligns with Literations' strategic growth plan to reach more students in high-need communities across Greater Boston and MetroWest. With a demonstrated track record of success—including 86% of students showing one or more years of literacy growth—Literations is excited to bring its proven model to Chelsea, empowering even more students to achieve critical literacy milestones in the years to come.
The organization is actively recruiting literacy coaches to begin serving Chelsea students in this school year. Community members interested in becoming a literacy coach or supporting this initiative can learn more at literations.org/volunteer.
